Hi pdl2,

Can tell us more on your issue?  Did you install the software driver from a physical Software CD or download the software driver from the HP official Printer Driver website?  Any damage on the physical USB cord?  When you plug in your printer to your computer, does it being detected and ask for a driver installation?

You may try to download the SW driver here and retry again on the installation see whether work or not.

I work for HP Inc., and above is only my personal opinion.  Hope this help.

Thanks & Regards.

Hello,

I recommend to check the following:

  1. Do you know if you have a universal print driver       install in your computer? Normally, this will cause for you to get a fatal error at 99%, since the printer is taking the UPD as the primary driver .

  1. Try uninstall the universal print drivers (if possible) from the print server properties:

  1. Start -> devices and printers -> select any printer
  2. On the tool bar select the option "Print service Properties"
  3. Look of the drivers tap -> UPD -> select remove -> remove       drive and driver package

  1. Run the full software again

Best regards,

I keep getting this same error message about the installation taking too long and that it is a fatal error.  I have tried installing the software using an installation disk and downloading it from the website.   I am very annoyed that neither solution solves the problem and you cannot get anyone on the phone to talk to you about it.  The printer is connected to the computer using a USB chord.  I did not realize when I bought this printer that it does not have wireless capability, but that really does not matter.   What matters is that it is a brand new printer and there is no way to have someone walk you through this already defective process.   The computer has the absolutely  latest Windows 10 drivers.   This is truly ridiculous.    I have bought many HP products, but I will have to reevaluate my future computer purchases after this fiasco.
