HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw

I am setting up a new Windows 11 laptop and have a Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw as my network printer.

 

The M277dw isn´t officially supported on Windows 11, and it seems that the Windows 10 drivers do not work in Windows 11.  Nevertheless, Siradlib posted here on 12th February 2024 that the driver for the HP Color LaserJet Pro M282-M285 works perfectly.

 

However, there are several Windows 11 drivers and software packages available for the HP Color LaserJet Pro M282-M285 range!  Does anyone know which one to choose, please?

You're right—the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw isn't officially supported on Windows 11, and the Windows 10 drivers may not work properly. 

However, some users have reported success using the HP Color LaserJet Pro M282-M285 drivers as a workaround.

 

Which Driver to Choose?

The best option is to download the HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software for the M282-M285 series, which includes the latest drivers and installation tools. You can find it on HP’s official support page here.

 

Installation Steps

  1. Download the HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software from HP’s support page.
  2. Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. Select your printer model manually if the M277dw isn’t detected automatically.
  4. Complete the setup and test printing to ensure compatibility.

In fact I seem to have found an even easier solution.  I tried going to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > Add device.  To my surprise Windows 11 immediately recognised the printer, and on clicking Add Device installed it with an HP driver.  It seems to be working well, and has produced Test Pages with no problem: so far the only limitation I have found is that it will not automatically duplex, which is a pity.

 

The next thing will be to set it up to scan.  If Windows Scan does not work well, VueScan has a scan driver for the M277dw and should provide full functionality.  I shall see how I get on.

 

The printer has proved robust and reliable with good quality output over many years, and so I am relieved to find that it has not been rendered entirely obsolete by the move to Windows 11.

It’s great to hear Windows 11 detected your M277dw so smoothly and that test pages are printing crisp and clean. You're absolutely right—while auto-duplex might be a small miss, having the core functionality up and running without a hitch is a win, especially for such a trusty, long-serving printer.
