HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn Printer

This printer is working fine on my desktop also running Win 11, but when I tried to set it up on my new laptop it only prints in black and white.  Windows 11 evidently does not recognize the color capabilities of this printer and will not give me the dialog box to choose the color option.  I remember having a similar issue with my desktop when I set it up, but do not remember what I did.  When I try to run the original HP software Windows will not let me run it because it has a "run as" command.  How do I solve this issue?

Hi @James513,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're encountering a driver or software-related issue that's preventing your Windows 11 laptop from recognizing the color capabilities of your HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn printer. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Update Printer Drivers: Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your HP printer. You can visit the official HP website, locate the drivers section, and download the latest drivers for your printer model. Ensure you download the correct drivers for Windows 11.

Reinstall Printer Drivers: Uninstall the existing printer drivers on your laptop and then reinstall them. To do this:

  • Go to "Settings" > "Devices" > "Printers & scanners."
  • Select your HP printer and click on "Remove device."
  • Disconnect the printer from the laptop.
  • Download and install the latest drivers from the HP website.
  • Reconnect the printer when prompted.

Use Windows Update: Ensure that your Windows 11 operating system is fully updated. Run Windows Update to make sure you have all the latest updates, including any updates related to printer drivers.

Compatibility Mode for HP Software: If you're having trouble running the HP software due to compatibility issues, you can try the following.

  • Right-click on the HP software executable file.
  • Choose "Properties."
  • Go to the "Compatibility" tab.
  • Check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select an earlier version of Windows (e.g., Windows 7 or Windows 8).
  • Click "Apply" and then "OK."
  • Try running the HP software again.

Run as Administrator: If the software requires administrative privileges, you can try running it as an administrator:

  • Right-click on the HP software executable file.
  • Select "Run as administrator."

Printer Properties: After installing the printer, check its properties in the "Printers & scanners" settings:

  • Right-click on your printer and select "Printer properties."
  • Look for any settings related to color options and ensure they are configured correctly.

Check Default Printer Settings: Make sure that the default printer settings on your laptop are configured to allow color printing. Go to "Settings" > "Devices" > "Printers & scanners," select your printer, and check its default settings.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the issue with your HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn printer on your Windows 11 laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Make sure you are using an HP driver and not a Microsoft IPP or Class driver.

On you Windows 11 system, go to control panel, right click on devices and printers and select open from the drop down menu. Right click on the icon for your printer and select printer properties from the drop down menu. Click on the device settings tab and scroll down till you see "device type" and change it to color from auto. Restart the program you were trying to print from and you should now have color options.
