HP OfficeJet 3830 All-in-One Printer

My printer HP OfficeJet 3830 All-In-One is only printing color from within the HP app itself as in test print.  All other apps are printing in black only.  [PC is windows 10, 64bit]   I have done the following:

  1. Uninstalled/reinstalled all drivers and even deleted the printer and reinstalled it on pc.
  2. Uninstalled/reinstalled Adobe app
  3. Checked that greyscale is not checked ☑️
  4. installed new ink cartridge supplied through HP Instantink.

Since it is the weekend, there is no help available and I really need to get this fixed asap.  I appreciate all the advice that I can get.

NOTE:  I also have a second laptop with Win 8.1 that is connected to the same printer.  I was curious to see rather or not it would print color and it did from an Adobe Acrobat program.  This is really puzzling to me because I had not had problems with either laptop previously.  Still looking for help.  Thanks

Further UPDATE:  I finally got the printer to print color when I wanted it to be thus.  I was not going through the HPSmart App but was directly choosing the printer itself.  My therory is that if one has the HPSmart App, then it must be used instead of the printer itself.  Also, the printer must be the default printer.

This is what I did after uninstalling and reinstalling the drives and printer for the fourth time.  But I have my printer back and am a happy camper.

Thanks for those of you who sent suggestions.

Try this, on your computer go to control panel>devices and printers and then right click on the icon for your printer and select "printer properties". Then click on the device settings tab and scroll down until you see "device type" and change it from auto or monochrome to color.
