Laserjet M203dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I need instructions for "Complete" Reset Laserjet m203dw.

Not a factory reset, or a hard reset.

Everywhere I look, I see people referencing a GO button, but the Laserjet M203dw doesn't have a GO button.

[Solution that HP will give you in private message:]

@Metuna

Thanks for waiting. Please try these steps -

1) With the device off, depress and hold the [Go] button.
2) Power on the device and hold [GO] button for 20 seconds. When the ready led turns on, release the [GO] button.

The button that looks like a little paper with a down arrow is the [GO] button].

The Laserjet M203dw doesn't have an LED display. The buttons on the Laserjet M203dw are as follows, from top to bottom:

Wireless-Network

Alert Light (no button)

Ready Light (no button)

Garbage Light (no button)

Resume button

Cancel Button

Power Button (not part of the console, lower on the printer)

The core of the issue is that I need the Printer's IP to be reset so that we can use it again for a network of many devices. Suffice to say, enough troubleshooting has already been done that I know WHAT I need to do, just not HOW to do it.

So, how does one perform a "Complete reset" of a Laserjet M203dw printer?

You can't do this! People deserve to know how to fix their printer issue without being FORCED to create an account and receive a private message!

People who have gotten this far, already know that their printer model is M203dw, so there's no risk of them "messing up their printer"!

You can't just edit out my solution that I have! This is ooouuuutttraaaageous!

I figured it out, so I'm going to help out any poor sod who was in my situation and, like me, couldn't get any information or useful help at all from anywhere in HP support.

What worked for me to force a complete reset, NVRAM initialization, clearing of cache, and IP information clearing, was the following:

Unplug the printer from power and ethernet.
Leave the printer unplugged at least overnight. If you can leave it longer, better.

Basically the drainage of power forces the printers NVRAM and CMOS to reset, thus clearing any of the faulty IP-related settings.

The [Go] button is a hoax and doesn't exist on the M203dw printer, don't believe what anyone else says.

Adieu. if I ever return to this forum, may it be too soon.

Never mind. as soon as the ethernet was plugged back in, the IP address was automatically reassigned.

I guess it's back to the drawing board.

I can only hope that an online support agent happens to read this.

Calling over the phone multiple times was of no avail. I've heard rumors about need to move a jumper inside the printer, but I have no idea where i would even find such a component.

Thank you but that did not work. After following those instructions, the printer's Network summary page still showed an IP address of 90.10, which proves that it is still malfunctioning.

To clarify, for those who've been searching high and low for instructions on what to do to factory reset an M203dw, here they are. This is the best HP can offer you poor souls.

Here is a copy-paste of the "private message" they send with a solution.
