Hi @StaceyMathGirl

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Let's break your two questions into steps:

1. Lenovo Computer Can't Locate HP Printer

If your Lenovo computer cannot locate the HP printer, it could be due to several factors. Here's a step-by-step guide to resolve this:

A. Check Printer and Computer Connection

  • Ensure the printer is powered on and has a stable connection (either USB or Wi-Fi).
  • For USB connections: Make sure the USB cable is properly connected between the printer and the computer.
  • For wireless connections:
    • Ensure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Lenovo computer. You can check the printer's network settings by printing a Network Configuration Page (usually found in the printer’s settings menu).
    • On your computer, ensure that it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

B. Restart the Printer and Computer

  • Turn off both the printer and computer. Wait for about 30 seconds, then turn them back on. This can help refresh the connection.

C. Reinstall the Printer Driver

  1. Go to the HP Support website and download the latest driver for your printer model. For example, for your HP DeskJet 2742e, you can find the driver on the HP Support site.
  2. Install the downloaded driver on your Lenovo computer.
  3. During installation, choose the option to connect the printer via Wi-Fi or USB.
  4. Follow the prompts to complete the setup.

D. Add Printer Manually

If your computer still can't locate the printer, you can add it manually:

  • Windows 10:
    1. Open the Start Menu and go to Settings.
    2. Click on Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    3. Click Add a printer or scanner and wait for it to detect the printer.
    4. If the printer is still not detected, click The printer that I want isn't listed and select your printer manually by entering the printer’s IP address (you can find this from the printer’s network configuration page).
  • After the printer is detected, it should be listed in your printers and you should be able to print.

E. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

HP provides a free tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor that can help diagnose and fix printer issues:

  • Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP’s website.
  • Run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to identify and fix any issues with the printer connection.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
