I purchased a used HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e.  So far it loads perfectly, but is calling for Starter Cartridges.

It seems to me this required changing this request in the configuration menu.

Can someone please advise the trick to get around the Start Cartridges required.

I have new HP new cartridges, and if I can get this resolved, will definately add this to

Instant Ink.

Please help me resolve this.

Hi @stwiss441,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that your computer is asking to use setup cartridges for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e.

Method 1: The Power Cycle Reset (Most Likely to Work)

  1. Remove all cartridges while the printer is on.

  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while it is still on.

  3. Unplug the other end from the wall outlet and wait at least 60 seconds.

  4. Plug the power cord back into the wall, then back into the printer.

  5. Turn the printer on and wait for it to ask for cartridges.

  6. Insert only ONE new cartridge, close the access door, and see if the error persists.

  7. If successful, repeat for the other cartridges.

Method 2: OOBE (Out of the Box Experience) Reset

If the power cycle fails, you may need to re-initialise the printer to factory settings.

  1. On the printer's front panel display, press the Back arrow button 4 times.

  2. Select Support Menu.

  3. Scroll to find the Resets Menu.

  4. Select Semi-Full Reset or OOBE Reset.

  5. The printer will turn off. Turn it back on and follow the setup instructions, which may now accept your standard new cartridges.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
