Configure Scan to Email for HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 in EWS

[I use the German web interface, so my translations might be slightly off]

I want to configure "Scan to Email" on a HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 in its EWS (not on the touchpad and not from Windows).

Following the manual I activated the webservices. (Although I fail to understand why this is necessary, since I never had to do this on other HP printers. I thought this is for Email to Print. We don't want our printers to have internet access, but just use a local mail server instead. Anyway, I set our firewall to full access for testing).

Then I'm prompted to activate "HP Connected". Annoying to be forced to do that, but I tried anyway. Although I accepted the expired certificate of h30495.www3.hp.com, the connection failed.

What now? In the EWS under "Scanning" there's only the option "Scan to computer / Webscan" which is "deactivated", but no option "Scan to Email".

So I fail to configure "Scan to email", while another email feature (email alarms) is easy to setup and just works.

Any idea?

Foremost:  This printer does not support SMTP send Profile setup for "Scan to Email".

What you see in the User Manual is what is available -

True - Setting up Scan to Email in "Apps" is not the same thing as a full digital send option.

Web Services connects the printer to the Internet -

Web Services is a normal part of the printer's setup to reach any external resource.

True - What you want is not outward connection -- I cannot speak for whether the printer can tell the difference or whether it will integrate with an internal mail server.

True -  HP Smart / HP Connected is used for assigning and controlling the printer's email address.
