Hi  @Nellie7352,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I see that as you have explained your HP Envy printer detected by your Chromebook but not be able to move forward with printing. Let’s work through this together.

Could you please share the exact model number of your HP Envy printer ?

Kindly confirm the below details :

  • When you connect the printer via USB, does the Chromebook show the printer name under “Settings > Advanced > Printing > Printers”?
  • Do you see any error messages or does it simply stop at detection with no option to print?
  • Have you tried adding the printer manually under “Printers” in Chromebook settings?

Here are a few  steps you can try :

Check the USB cable and port – Make sure the cable is firmly connected and try a different USB port on your Chromebook if available.

Manually add the printer – Go to Chromebook settings -Advanced -Printing -Printers -Add Printer. If your HP Envy is listed, select it. If not, try entering the printer’s IP address (if it supports network printing).

Update Chromebook – Ensure your Chromebook is running the latest ChromeOS version, as updates often improve printer compatibility.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply.

It is an Envy  6455e

I gave up trying to connect it wirelessly. But it doesn't "see" my printer with the USB cord. To add the printer it asks for more technical detail than I have.

Appreciate any help.

Hi @Nellie7352,

Thanks for your response.  Since your Chromebook doesn’t “see” the printer with USB, I suggest first confirming whether the USB cable and port are working by testing with another device (like a Windows PC, if available). If the printer works there, then the issue is Chromebook recognition.

I hope this helps.
