@Elizabeth_12, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP smart app!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP Deskjet 2540 is connected to the Internet but not connecting to the HP Smart app, try the following steps to resolve the issue:

Ensure Bluetooth and Location Services are Enabled:

  • If you're using a mobile device, make sure Bluetooth and location services are turned on. HP Smart uses Bluetooth for printer setup on mobile devices.

Restore Network Settings:

  • If the printer is no longer in wireless setup mode, you may need to restore network settings to default. This puts the printer back in setup mode, allowing it to connect to the app.

Open HP Smart App:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device. This can be downloaded and installed from the app store or HP's official site.

Add Printer:

  • In the HP Smart app, click or tap the Plus icon or "Add Printer" option. If prompted, allow Bluetooth and location permissions to enable the setup process.

Account Registration:

  • Once the printer is detected, follow the instructions to add it to your network. You may need to create or sign in to an HP account and register the printer.

Check Wireless Light:

  • Ensure that the Wireless light is blinking when you initiate the setup. Once it successfully connects, the light will stop blinking and stay lit.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
