HP LaserJet P1102w

Trying to set up the printer with Mac Mini.

Plugged printer into power.

Plugged USB cord into Mac Mini and printer.

This message popped up: the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer. Ignore. Eject.

My computer does not have a disk drive.

How may I set up this connection?

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂

I came across your post and would like to assist.

I understand that you have an HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer and would like to install it on your Mac Mini. I read that when the printer is connected to the USB port of the Mac Mini, there is a message saying "the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer". I appreciate your efforts in troubleshooting this issue and have certainly done a good job.

May I know the Mac OS version that is present in your Mac Mini?

While you respond to that. I found that this HP printer support Apple Airprint. While you respond to that. I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

NOTE: If possible please update the Mac OS on your Mac mini before performing the following steps.

  • Connect the cable to the USB port on the rear of the printer and to an available port on the computer.
  • Confirm you are using AirPrint by adding the printer in System Preferences.

  • Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

Example of the Printers & Scanners window
  • Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, and then do one of the following steps.

    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm it is set up for AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed in the Add Printer or Scanner window, go to the Frequently asked questions in this document to resolve connection issues, try to add the printer again, and then continue to the next step.

  • Confirm AirPrint or Secure AirPrint displays in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu
  • Open a document or photo, click File, and then click Print.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted for further assistance.

All the best! 🙂

Hi,

We haven't heard from you.

Upon further research on this case by our forums expert (thank you @StretchMusic), the issue is that the printer uses Windows software called HP Smart Install and it is trying to run in Mac OS. You should likely have software installed to run Windows on the Mac such as Parallels or VM Ware Fusion.  Please check if you have this software installed and you can try disabling the software.

You can also alternatively use a Windows based computer to disable HP Smart Install or use EWS to disable.

Here is a previous posting where the issue was resolved: https://hp.care/2JB8UCQ

Hope this helps. Let me know the outcome.

Good luck!
