I have an older Chromebook (14-ca023nr) and a Smart Tank 7002. They work fine on their own. The Smart Tank will print over wifi from other devices (Windows, iOS) but not from the Chromebook. The Chromebook is fully updated but HP Smart is unavailable from the Play store. Do I need something else or am I out of luck? Thanks.

Hi @Michelle248313,
I am sorry to hear that the above steps did not help much but i do appreciate your efforts in performing the troubleshooting steps.
Please follow the below steps to further troubleshoot.
1. Use Google Cloud Print Alternative
Google Cloud Print is no longer available, but you can still set up printing directly via Wi-Fi.
Ensure the Printer is on the Same Wi-Fi Network: Confirm that your Chromebook and Smart Tank 7002 are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Add Printer Manually:
- Open your Chromebook's settings by clicking the clock in the bottom-right corner and then the gear icon.
- Go to "Advanced" > "Printing" > "Printers".
- Click "Add Printer".
- Select your Smart Tank 7002 if it appears, or click "Add manually" and enter the IP address of the printer (you can find this on the printer's control panel or via its web interface).
2. Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS)
- Access the printer's EWS using its IP address in a browser on your Chromebook.
- Enable any options related to Direct Printing or ensure Wi-Fi Direct is enabled for easier connectivity.
3. HP Print for Chrome Extension
If available, try the HP Print for Chrome extension:
- Go to the Chrome Web Store.
- Search for "HP Print for Chrome."
- Install the extension and follow the instructions to add your printer.
4. Check Printer Compatibility
Since HP Smart is unavailable, ensure the printer supports printing directly from Chrome OS. You might need a driverless solution such as Mopria or IPP Everywhere. The Smart Tank 7002 is compatible with these modern printing standards.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a great day ahead!

Looking under the settings for the Chromebook, the HP printer appears to be added but nothing will print from the device.
You have suggested the HP Chrome extension in point 4 but the link to it in the store is broken.

Try to install the next plugin for HP printer in Chromebooks:
HP Print Service plugin
>> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hp.android.printservice
Also follow steps from the next video:

Yes. I have done this. I have gone to the link and opened HP Print Service plug in. I am then directed to the Google Store and instructed to download HP Smart. But as I have stated in a previous post this does not work. Smart is not available. All direct links to it that I have been given are broken or the Store will not permit a download of this item. Smart doesn't seem to be the answer.
I can connect to my Chromebook and Printer to my wifi. Nothing prints. I can also connect the both the printer and Chromebook to direct connection. Nothing prints

Thanks for the additional information. 😊
1. Once you install HP Print Service Plugin you can simply skip installation of HP Smart and use the Print option directly.
2. Check the steps on the next video:
3. Or you can try an alternative, if HP Print Service Plugin doesn´t work
then try with the next print service:
- >Mopria Print Service
- > https://play.google.com/store/search?q=mopria+print&c=apps
* Click YES to say thank you,
* Click Accepted Solution when question is answered.
