My HP Deskjet 3775 printer sometimes connects and sometimes does not connect with my Windows 11 PC. It will print a dozen pages or more, then tell me that the printer is offline. It clearly isn't, as the printer lights are all on and proper. Sometimes it will tell me that I have an improper cartridge. I've rebooted, both the printer and the PC, and sometimes that works. I've removed and reinstalled the printer drivers, and sometimes that works. Sometimes I've simply disconnected the USB cable and plugged it back in. No matter what I try, it sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't and it seems very random. I am wasting hours of time troubleshooting my printer rather than getting work done. Any ideas?

Hi @Allan40,Welcome to the HP Support Community!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP DeskJet 3775 has an intermittent connection issue with Windows 11. Here are some troubleshooting steps to fix it:

1. Check Printer and USB Connection

  • If using USB, try a different USB port and cable.
  • If using Wi-Fi, make sure your printer and PC are on the same network and that Wi-Fi is stable.
  • Ensure the printer is set as the default in Windows.
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners > Click on your printer > Select Set as default.

2. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  • Run it to automatically detect and fix connection issues.

3. Update Printer Drivers

  1. Uninstall current drivers:
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners
    • Click on your printer, then Remove device.
  2. Download the latest driver from the HP Support website.
  3. Install it and restart your PC.

4. Disable SNMP for a More Stable Connection (For Wi-Fi)

  1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click your printer > Printer Properties.
  3. Go to the Ports tab.
  4. Select the active port (e.g., Standard TCP/IP Port).
  5. Click Configure Port and uncheck SNMP Status Enabled.
  6. Click OK and restart your printer.

5. Check Windows Print Spooler Service

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Scroll to Print Spooler, right-click, and choose Restart.
  3. Set Startup Type to Automatic.

6. Fix "Improper Cartridge" Error

  • Remove the ink cartridges, clean the copper contacts with a lint-free cloth, and reinstall them.
  • Try new genuine HP cartridges if the issue persists.

7. Disable Power Saving for USB Ports

  1. Open Device Manager (Press Win + X, then choose Device Manager).
  2. Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
  3. Double-click USB Root Hub, go to Power Management.
  4. Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
  5. Repeat for all USB hubs and restart your PC.

Final Option: Reset Printer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug it for 60 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in, turn it on, and try printing.

If the problem persists, let me know whether you're using USB or Wi-Fi, and I’ll suggest more solutions! 😊
