Hi @Miamicat
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.
Please let us know if yiou get any error message ?
Could you please elaborate in detail?
Here are some steps to help you troubleshoot the issue:
Check Connections:
- Make sure the printer is powered on and properly connected to your Wi-Fi network. If you’re using a USB connection, ensure the cable is securely connected to both the printer and the iMac.
Restart Devices:
- Restart both the printer and your iMac. This can help reset any temporary issues.
Use the HP Smart App:
- Download the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store. This app can help guide you through the setup process and detect your printer more effectively.
Check for Updates:
- Ensure that your iMac is up to date with the latest macOS updates. Sometimes, updates can resolve compatibility issues.
- Also, check for any firmware updates for the printer using the HP Smart app or the HP website.
Add Printer Manually:
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners. Click the "+" button to add a printer. Your printer should appear in the list. If it does, select it and follow the prompts to add it.
Reset Printing System:
- If the printer is still not recognized, you can try resetting the printing system:
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list and choose "Reset printing system."
- After the reset, try adding the printer again.
Check for Error Messages:
- Look for any error messages on the printer’s display. If there are specific errors, refer to the user manual or HP’s website for troubleshooting.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
-Regards
