Hi @Reshma84,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP DeskJet 2003 series printer is not being recognized by your laptop, try the following troubleshooting steps.

Check Connections

  • USB Connection: Ensure that the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and the laptop. If you're using a USB hub, try connecting the printer directly to the laptop.
  • Power On: Make sure the printer is powered on and in a ready state.

Install Drivers

  • HP Smart App: Download the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store or HP's website. This app can help install the necessary drivers for your printer.
  • Drivers from HP Website: You can also visit the HP Driver Downloads page and search for your printer model to download the latest drivers.

Set Up Printer

  • Add Printer in Settings:
    1. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    2. Click on Add a printer or scanner.
    3. Wait for your laptop to search for the printer. If it appears, select it and click Add device.

Restart Devices

  • Restart Printer and Laptop: Sometimes, simply restarting both the printer and the laptop can resolve connectivity issues.

Check for Windows Updates

  • Ensure that your Windows operating system is up to date. Sometimes, missing updates can cause compatibility issues.

Troubleshoot USB Issues

  • If using USB:
    • Try a different USB port on your laptop.
    • Use a different USB cable, if possible.

Check Firewall/Antivirus Settings

  • Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software can block the printer connection. Temporarily disable them to see if it resolves the issue.

Check Printer Status

  • Printer's Control Panel: Make sure there are no error messages on the printer's display.

After trying these steps, check if your laptop recognizes the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
