Microsoft Windows 11

I have changed my wifi lately and trying to re-connect my HP 3630 printer to the new wifi network. I did the wifi reset, used HP Smart app to set it up as a new printer. The app said "A custom password has been set for your printer. Enter the password to access the printer web interface. " I don't recall setting up this password ever. This printer was registered to HP  Instant Ink program. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it.

Anyway, now I'm no able to re-connect the printer and use it anymore. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @tenderz101,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're encountering a prompt for a custom password for your HP DeskJet 3630 printer and don't recall setting one, there are a few steps you can take to resolve this issue. Here are some options you can try:

1. Reset the Printer to Factory Settings

Resetting the printer to its factory default settings can clear any custom passwords that have been set. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  3. Wait for 30 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.
  5. Press and hold the "Resume" button (the button with the triangle icon) for about 10-20 seconds until the printer light starts blinking. This will reset the printer to its factory settings.

2. Use the Printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

If you can connect the printer directly to your computer via USB or if the printer has an IP address, you can try accessing the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to reset the password:

  1. Connect your printer to the computer via USB if it is not already connected.
  2. Find the IP address of the printer:
    • On the printer, press the Information button (i) to print a network configuration page.
    • Locate the IP address on the printed page.
  3. Open a web browser on your computer and type the IP address of the printer into the address bar. This should take you to the printer's EWS.
  4. Log in with the default credentials if prompted (usually "admin" for both username and password, or just leave the password field blank).
  5. Navigate to the settings where you can change or reset the password.

3. Use the HP Smart App or HP Print and Scan Doctor

HP provides tools that can help diagnose and fix issues with their printers:

HP Smart App:

  • Open the HP Smart App.
  • Go to "Printer Settings" or "Advanced Settings".
  • Look for a password reset option or an option to configure the printer's network settings.

HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and resolve issues, including password reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for your reply.

I tried to reset by holding "Resume" button for more than 30 secs, yet nothing happened. Repeated a few times still nothing.

Connect using USB, and not able to connect with EWS as it gave me "it took too long to communicate" error message.

On HP Smart App after connected using USB, I was able to navigate to printer settings. But every page requires this "custom password".

HP Print and Scan Doctor found nothing wrong.

I don't recall setting a password for the printer ever. I don't have the habit on the printers and no one else will touch the printer setting here.

Is there any other way to solve this?

Appreciated.
