I'm unable to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) of the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M428dw (Printer Name HP57FBEE) as the know password gets rejected. I would like to reset the printer to enable me to reset the admin password for the EWS. I have the IP address.

Hi @Siyakubonga,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you’re having trouble accessing the Embedded Web Server (EWS) on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M428dw because the default or known password is being rejected, you can follow these steps to reset the printer and regain access. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you with this issue:
1. Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults
Resetting the printer to factory defaults can often resolve issues with passwords and settings. However, note that this will erase all custom settings and configurations, so you may need to reconfigure your printer afterward.
Resetting via the Control Panel
- On the printer’s control panel, press the Home button to go to the main menu.
- Select Setup (gear icon) or Menu.
- Choose Service or Printer Maintenance depending on your model’s options.
- Look for an option like Restore Defaults, Factory Reset, or Reset.
- Confirm the reset by following the prompts
- The printer will reboot and restore factory settings.
Resetting via HP Utility
If you cannot access the control panel due to password issues, you might try accessing the printer settings via the HP Utility on a connected computer.
- On a Mac, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners. Select your printer and open HP Utility.
- On Windows, open HP Smart or the printer’s Properties from Devices and Printers.
- Look for a Restore Factory Defaults option in the settings or maintenance tab.
2. Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) with Default Credentials
After resetting the printer, you can access the EWS with the default credentials. The default login for most HP printers is:
- Username: admin
- Password: admin
- Enter the printer’s IP address into the browser’s address bar.
- Use the default username and password to log in.
3. Change the Admin Password
- After accessing EWS with the default credentials, navigate to the Security or Administration section.
- Look for an option to change the admin password and update it to a new, secure password.
- Save your changes and ensure that the new password is noted for future reference.
4. Reconfigure Printer Settings
- Reconfigure your network settings, such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet connections.
- Adjust any custom settings according to your needs.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
