HP Officejet 8035e
Chrome OS

I just bought the HP Officejet 8035e all in one printer for my 96 yr old mother as I wanted a printer that was directly compatible with the Chrome OS.  She has very poor sight and the control screen on the printer is very small.  She generally only needs to print in black and white, but the printer defaults to color printing.  It is extremely difficult for her to change the setting each time she wants to print a document.  I have been unable to find a place in either the settings on the printer or in the Chrome OS to change the default to print in Black and White.  Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Hi,

I afraid that less functionality is available for such a cloud-based OS such as Chrome OS, changing the defaults is not possible but require to change the settings for a print job.

Generally, be aware that such settings are controlled from the Google Chrome settings on the computer, not from the control screen on the printer, so please clarify what exact steps are taken, or may you meant to refer to Copying from the printer screen and not to printing from a Chromebook?

When you print from Chrome OS, after selecting the destination you should select More Settings and can check Black or Color there in the printing dialog there, just mentioning the steps to deny any possible mistaken steps.

If that doesn't help, you may try installing and using the 3rd party app below and see if that help:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ipp-cups-printing-for-chr/lkhfeoafdgbaecajkdbioenncjopbpmk...

After installing the extension, check if it may allow changing the defaults.

If not, try looking for any printing default option within the CUPS interface, I believe a such is offered for the extension, this can be accessed from Google Chrome:

http://localhost:631

Hope that may help,

Shlomi
