HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I had an officejet Pro 6978 All-in-one printer.  it stopped working so, Ibought another of the same number.  I added the new one to my system, and replaced my ink subscription to the new printer.  I still list in my printers, the old as offline and the new one as active. My pc still listed the old printer as offline.  I couldn't delete it as HP  said it still had an ink subscription attached to it, which it doesn't.  So I elected to hide it.

Now I can't unhide iit or delete.it.  This all started because i was trying to add HP Smart to my cell.

I guess, my question is, how do I delete the offline printer from my settings?

Thanks Edgar

Hi @edgarbiii,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To delete the offline printer from your settings, you can try the following steps.

Access Devices and Printers:

  • Go to your computer's Control Panel.
  • Click on "Devices and Printers."

Remove Offline Printer:

  • Look for the offline printer (OfficeJet Pro 6978) in the list of installed printers.
  • Right-click on the offline printer.
  • Select "Remove Device" or "Delete" from the context menu.

Confirm Deletion:

  • If prompted, confirm that you want to remove the printer.

Restart Your Computer:

  • After removing the printer, restart your computer to ensure the changes take effect.

If the above steps don't work due to the printer still being associated with an ink subscription, you may need to perform additional steps:

Access HP Smart:

  • Open HP Smart on your computer or mobile device.

Manage Subscriptions:

  • Log in to your HP Smart account.
  • Navigate to the subscription management section.

Remove Subscription:

  • Locate the ink subscription associated with the old printer.
  • Remove the subscription or associate it with the new printer.

Retry Removing Printer:

  • Once the subscription issue is resolved, go back to Devices and Printers.
  • Try removing the offline printer again using the steps mentioned earlier.

By following these steps, you should be able to remove the offline printer from your settings successfully.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
