I just got a a DeskJet 1112 from a friend for free (yay!) but I can't figure out the set up. I followed all the instructions and got Easy Start downloaded on my Mac, but the printer won't come up on Easy Start. I also tried the HP app on my iPhone and it won't connect there either. The power button is blinking.

I tried contacting HP customer service but it just kept redirecting me to this forum. Can anyone please help me? Thanks!

Hi @ss327

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing the details. The HP DeskJet 1112 is actually a basic USB-only printer — it does not have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or HP Smart App support. That’s why you can’t find it on HP Easy Start or the HP Smart mobile app (those are for Wi-Fi printers).

The blinking power button just means the printer is in standby and waiting for a USB connection.

How to Set Up Your HP DeskJet 1112

Connect via USB

Use a standard USB-A to USB-B cable (printer cable – square end into printer, flat end into Mac/PC).

Plug directly into your Mac, not through a hub if possible.

Driver / Software

On a Mac, you usually don’t need HP Easy Start for this model.

Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners → click the “+” button → your DeskJet 1112 should appear under USB.

Select it → macOS will download the correct driver automatically.

Download the full driver package for DeskJet 1112 from HP Software & Drivers page.

On iPhone/iPad

This printer doesn’t support AirPrint or Wi-Fi.

The only way to print from iOS is to connect your printer to a Mac/PC and then share it on the network (or use a 3rd-party USB-to-WiFi print server).

If Power Button Keeps Blinking

Make sure the USB cable is properly connected.

Check that paper is loaded and cartridges are installed.

If still blinking, try a printer reset:

Power on the printer.

Unplug power cord (without turning off).

Wait 1 minute.

Plug it back in and power on.

In short:

The DeskJet 1112 can only work with USB to computer.

Forget HP Easy Start / HP Smart app — just install it as a USB printer driver on your Mac.

Would you like me to walk you step by step through adding it to Printers & Scanners on macOS so it finally shows up?
