DeskJet 3764
Microsoft Windows XP

I'm trying to install the driver for the DeskJet 3764 on a Windows XP 32bit SP3 computer with an AMD Athlon XP1800+.

After downloading it (both the full and the basic driver installer), I try to launch them but after the file extraction the file HP-DQEX5.exe fails to run and I only receive the message from Windows that the program crashed.

I've already tried different possible solution found on this forum and other sources (tried booting on safe mode and with a new user, updated completely the system, installed all the available .NET framework version I could find, tried to launch all the exes I could find inside the packet) but with no luck. Could you tell me if I'm able to find a way to install it without trying to upgrade the computer to Win7 or something else?

Thank you for joining the HP Community

HP DeskJet 3764 All-in-One Printer does not support Windows XP.

Let's try installing the printer using the Windows Built-in Print Driver.

Click on this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879.

Try to print.

Keep me posted, how it goes!

As it is written on the box, and as it is written in the product specification here https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-deskjet-3700-all-in-one-printer-series/8954253/model/2304542... the printer is compatible with Windows XP SP3, and I bought it because of this.

I already found ant tried to follow the instructions you linked, Step 1 done, Step 2 followed but there are no drivers and the printer does not work, followed the Step 3 (despite written for everything apart from XP, they are quite similar so I managed to follow the same steps) but between the drivers found by Windows Update there's no sign of this printer.

@DrOliver

I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and Install the drivers, follow the steps below:

Remove the USB if connected

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

Then, Click on this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879 to install the Built-in drivers.
