I just cannot get the 2600 printer to print. It will scan but only print useless printer information pages .HP Smart says it's ready but when I go to settings/ devices the message is always "offline" or "error" or "app is available" etc with several variations. Today I phoned HP and a technician took control for almost an hour but even he couldn't get it to go. It seems to be incompatible software between Windows 10 and the printer software. He noted the LAN frequency was 5Ghz and said the printer software normally had a 2.4Ghz frequency.. Could that be the cause, and if so what can I do about it?

Welcome to the HP support community.
Yes, this printer supports only 2.4Ghz band.
Change the band on the router, then follow the below steps to fix the offline error.
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity
Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.

Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.

Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.

If your printer is not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.

If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.

If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.

If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

Try to print.
Assign a manual IP address and that should fix the issue.
- On the printer's control panel, press the Wireless button
and the Information button
at the same time.
Setting a Static IP Address
Once you know your printer’s IP address from the page you printed, entering it is pretty easy. Here’s what you do:
- Run your Web browser.
- In the Web browser’s address bar, type the IP address of your printer and press Enter. Assuming you entered the right address, the HP printer control panel should appear.
- Click the Networking tab.
- Under Connections, click Wireless.
- Under IP Address Configuration, click Manual IP.
- Enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway in the appropriate boxes.
- Click Apply.
