Background:

Since my computer updated to Mac OS 10.2.1 the printer has had numerous issues with printing and scanning, mostly not printing at all. There are no updates available for the Deskjet 3050 J610 and the most recent Update available from HP is for OS 10.8 which won't run on Mac OS 11.

 

The Deskjet 3050 J610 is not listed for Apple AirPrint so that is unusable and not an option.

 

I installed HP Smart and there are still issues. The printer is shown as ready:

Tried to print directly from an application and nothing happens, tried to print a pdf from within HP Smart page and nothing happens. No pop-up warnings or notices.

 

Also, I tried to scan a document,  set to the scanner on HP Smart Scan page, the scan page opens but after clicking the 'Scan' button a pop-up window states to make sure the printer is turned on and connected, printed shows IP address on the printer's small screen. WiFi blue light is on and not flashing.

The diagnosis showed no issues:

Even with a USB connected the results are the same.

 

Any ideas would be most welcome. Thank you.

I was advised to reset the printer by pressing the cancel and power buttons at the same time, while the printer is on; then to press the blue, green and gray buttons (in that order). 

 

The printer is a Deskject 3050 J610, so doesn't have any colored buttons and the screen is monochrome. 

 

Any solutions to the issue above would be very welcome.

HP Deskjet 3050 drivers for macOS 11 Big Sur are not available from the HP website or Apple Software Update. However, Gutenprint (formerly called Gimp-Print) provides open-source basic print drivers for many printers that would otherwise not be supported in Mac OS X. To see if your printer is supported, go to Gutenprint drivers for more information.

 

NOTE: Gutenprint drivers are not supported by HP or Apple.

Thank you for the response and suggestions, much appreciated.

 

Yes, I know that there are no printer drivers for OS 11 for the Deskjet 3050 J610, the last one listed was for system 10.8.

 

Also, the Deskjet 3050 J610 printer is not listed under Apple AirPrint.

 

I had seen Gutenprint drivers option previously but the Deskjet 3050 J610 is also not listed.

 

I had Installed HPSmart and that seems to connect as it shows the printer as 'Ready'; but when printing or opening the scan option to scan nothing happens. This had the same result from HP Smart and from within an application. The printer is shown in print dialogue box and the printer/scanners option in the System preferences.

 

Not sure how to proceed from here. Any ideas welcome.

The printer is not compatible with HP Smart App. The app is compatible with the operating system though.

 

We do not have any other suggestions or workaround on this issue.

Thank you for the confirmation about HP Smart not being compatible with my printer.

 

I was thinking that my option now is to buy a new printer, but none of the HP ones available here show they are compatible with Mac OS 11.2.1 only OS 10.15

 

Do you have a list of printers compatible with HP Smart, or perhaps a printer similar in price range to the Deskjet 3050 J610 that has software that will run on Mac OS 11.2.1
