Hello
can someone help me with the instructions to perform a factory reset on my HP deskjet 3639?
None of the known possible default credentials seemed to work.
After some several attempts I am still beeing asked for the admin password on the EWS.
while printing the status report page mentions that the Admin password is not set
Thanks in advance for your help

Hi @mek944,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Performing a factory reset on your HP Deskjet 3639 printer can help resolve issues, but it's important to note that a factory reset will erase all your printer settings and return it to its default state. Since you're having trouble with the admin password, it's essential to perform this reset properly. Here's how to do it.
Method 1: Using the Control Panel on the Printer
- Make sure your printer is turned on.
- On the printer control panel, locate and press the "Wireless" button and the "Cancel" button at the same time.
- Hold both buttons for about 5 seconds until the power light starts to blink.
This should initiate a factory reset of your printer. Once the reset is complete, you may need to set up your printer as if it were new, including connecting it to your Wi-Fi network.
Method 2: Using HP Smart App (if your printer is connected to Wi-Fi)
- Make sure your printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network.
- Install and open the HP Smart app on your mobile device.
- Tap on the printer icon to open the printer details page.
- Tap on "Advanced Settings" or "Printer Settings."
- Look for the option to perform a factory reset and follow the on-screen instructions.
Method 3: Using Embedded Web Server (EWS) - If you have the admin password
Since you mentioned you've been asked for the admin password on the EWS and the status report says the admin password is not set, you can try setting the admin password first and then performing the factory reset:
- On a computer connected to the same network as your printer, open a web browser.
- In the address bar, type the printer's IP address. You can find this on the printer's status report.
- The EWS page should open. If you are prompted for a password, leave it blank and try to access the EWS.
- Once you're in the EWS, navigate to the Security or Settings section.
- Look for an option to set an admin password. Set a password, and remember it.
- Now, go back to the EWS home page and look for the option to perform a factory reset.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to reset the printer to its factory settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
