I got the printer for Christmas, just recently opened it and was able to use it. I put the ink in as directed and I got an error saying the black ink wasn’t in/ had a problem. I decided to open a new black ink package and try that to see if it was just a faulty ink cartridge but it still says the same thing. I’ve tried taking it out and cleaning it (as directed by the staff on Facebook messager) and it will say the black ink is in and ready but as soon as I go to print something it pops up as it’s damaged / not even there.

A warm welcome to HP Community!

Most of the ink cartridge errors can be cleared by power resetting the printer and cleaning the cartridge electrical contacts. Since you have already tried those steps, I'm Afraid, its a possible printer failure. Please call HP Support to obtain all available repair/replacement options. You may use the following steps to contact your regional HP Support:
