Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I reformatted my laptop a day ago. I tried to connect to my existing printer and it was giving me a headache all day long. It keeps showing "Print of both sides manually" even though it could print automatically. I checked the printing properties and I found that the automatic duplex unit keeps changing back to "Not installed". Then when I tried to print on both sides manually, the printer doesn't allow me to do so. It prints all the documents single sided.

I have the same issue with my 4535. On 3 different computers with new installed Win10.

It is unbelievable that this issue is known for at least 3 years and still when you freshly install Win10 and HP drivers, the issue is exactly the same...

Today I had an Windows upgrade to Win10 on my last Win7 computer and had to install drivers to my printer and again the same issue. Before upgrade it was working automatically, now the driver doesn't see duplex installed and when you go to "printer properties" it shows error message.

And when you see the long history of different discussions it relates to any HP printer with duplex.

And no real solution found...

@rttee, @Kryz, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

This seems like a compatibility issue between the printer driver and the Win 10 OS. Installing Win 7 print driver on your Win 10 PC may help. Lets us try these steps:

Clean reinstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers

  1.  In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
  2.  Select your HP Printer
  3.  Select Uninstall
  4.  In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
  5.  In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
  6.  Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
  7.  Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
  8.  Click on the “Drivers” tab
  9.  Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
  10.  Select Ok
  11.  Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
  12.  Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.

Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Try printing.

Let me know how this goes.
