Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My device software will not start. When I use Start Menu icons or charm menu to find and start the actual software interface does not appear. This is what I am used to seeing....

All that appears is a device setup prompt after a user authorization prompt.

I even tried following through with this wanting to see if the software would open, but it cannot detect the printer even when the IP is provided, and nothing has changed on my LAN .

I have used this same printer with software on the same machine for years without problem. Today this appeared as I was attempting to fax a pdf, which has also worked for years.

It appears installed in the Control Panel and Windows Settings Apps menu. Modifying or repairing does not work.

I do not want to try uninstall yet as it might choke and break the possibility of a reinstall. HELP! please. I am a long time dedicated HP customer with laptops, PCs, printers, etc. and never had this level of problem.

FWIW I am a tech myself. I ran sfc, windows troubleshooters and of course rebooting.

@wi77ie, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are not able to install the printer software on the computer.

Check for any firewalls/anti-virus software and disable the same for the time being and reinstall the drivers.

If the printer is not detected by the computer using its IP address, then there is no connectivity between the devices.

  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.

Use the HP Smart app to print and scan from your Win 10 PC and check if this works

I am extremely disappointed. If you read my post, you would know I never made this claim as you posted...

"I understand you are not able to install the printer software on the computer."

I would welcome any input on what I did post about. Try again please if you wish. I am still struggling with it.

@wi77ie

You are not able to open the HP printer assistant window. It is the same as I have stated in my previous post. It is an issue with the software as it is not installed properly.

Did you use the HP smart app and check if it works?

Uninstall the software from the control panel, delete the printer entry from the device manager and restart the computer.

Click here to download the HP Full-feature driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Let me know how it goes.
