My desktop PC was powered down for a few days. when powered up solution center wouldn't load. Found a path and loaded Solution center. When going into scan settings it fails due to no Photosmart software found. I need  a version to load but cannot find one.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity

Download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.

  3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.

    • If your printer is not in the list, turn it off and on and then click Retry.

    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  4. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.

  5. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

If the issue persists, Delete the driver at the root level and Install the drivers, follow the steps below:

Remove the USB if connected

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

Raj,

Thanks much for your assistance, hugely appreciated. Couple of questions, if you please.

I had already downloaded the Full Feature SW & Drivers and a version of the HPPSdr.exe and it appears identical to what's on the link, the Hppsdr I downloaded was 9.16MB and the version you directed me to is 7.85MB. Is it correct that I use the smaller one?

Also when I go into Windows Programs & Features I have a number of HP programs listed:

HP Support Solutions Framework

HP Update

HP Support Assistant

HP Photo Creations

Shop for HP Supplies

OCR SW for IRIS 14.0

HP Customer Participation Program 14.0

Should I delete all?

When I fire up the Solution Center and try to set scan settings, I get an error asking for HPPhotosmart SW. Since I don't have it I can't set up any of the scan settings. When I attempt to use the scan button in the Solution Center a troubleshooting box pops up. I can click ignore and the scan proceeds but pops up every time I attempt to scan. Of course the scan button on the printer does not work at all.

Thanks again for all your help, I hope we can get to the bottom of this problem.

Mike

Yes you can download the PSDR link as suggested by Raj.

If the issue persists, try using the HP Smart App. You can refer to this Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04675142 😊

Thank you for your response.

RE response: The HP Smart App is not compatible with my Deskjet F4250.

I ran the Scan Doctor and came up with the following results.

It still appears I need the HP Photosmart software to fulfill setup instructions. The CD that came with my printer will not run on Win 10. Is it possible to acquire a standalone copy of the Photosmart software?

Thanks,

Mike

Make sure the Scan to Computer is enable

  1. Open the HP Printer Assistant. Windows 10: From the Start menu, click All Apps, click HP, and then select the printer name. ...
  2. Go to the Scan section.
  3. Select Manage Scan to Computer.
  4. Click Enable.

Try to scan.

An alternate way to scan the to computer is by using the HP smart app.

Click on this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04675142 for Installing and Use the HP Smart App.

Thank you very much for your response.

I don't think you read my post from 10/30, or don't completely understand my issue.

I AM able to scan from the Solution Center, just not without going through the error notice I displayed in my 10/30 post. I am unable to complete scan setup without Photosmart SW installed as the previous error message states. Because of this I cannot use the scan button on my printer. Also, the Smart App is NOT compatible with my F4250 printer.

Since the CD that came with my printer won't run on my Win 10, I cannot load the included Photosmart SW, Is there any way I can get a standalone copy for download?

Thank you,

Mike

The standalone link to download the full-featured software for the printer is https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-deskjet-f4200-all-in-one-printer-series/3390945/....

Before you start the download, uninstall the existing software for your printer, delete all the HP printer related files, restart the PC and then continue with new download and install. To uninstall the existing software, refer to the document HP Printers - Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows)

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for your response.

This did not help as I am still receiving the same errors as I posted on 10/30.

Is there no way I can download or otherwise acquire a copy of HP Photosmart SW?

Thanks,

Mike
