The company that I work for has several HP OfficeJet 8015e Printers for the staff that are spread across the county that don't have access to larger commercial printers. These Staff often move between each one of these sites so they have multiple copies of these printers on their laptops, however since none of the printers are not on the network they are each assigned virtual USB ports. They are using the latest drivers as of 8/29/2025 and the latest firmware is installed on the printers.

On several occasions we will receive calls from the staff that the printer is printing an extra page out after their documents have finished printing. This extra page seems to be an error page from some report it is trying to pull, likely due to a communication error between the printer and the laptop. The message that is being displayed is shown below.IMG_0842.jpg

So far, we have tried updating printer firmware, uninstalling and reinstalling the printer as well as the drivers, checked to make sure the notifications are turned off, and restarts on both the printer and the laptop. Since these staff are remote and don't have and administrative rights they can't do this themselves so rely on one of our techs to remote in and troubleshoot for them. Is there some fix to this?

@DavDer, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Device Management Page Printing After each print!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I can imagine how frustrating it must be to hear the printer hum, finish your document perfectly, and then suddenly spit out that mysterious “GET /DevMgmt…” status page.

This usually happens when the printer driver and the USB port mapping get a little out of sync, especially with virtual USB ports on laptops that move around. Let’s try a few things that often calm this down:

Check the printer driver type

Make sure the printer is using the HP Smart / HP OfficeJet 8010 series full-feature driver and not a generic “Class Driver.”

You can confirm this in Devices and Printers → Printer Properties → Advanced tab.

Recreate the printer port

Delete the existing printer from Devices and Printers.

Reinstall it, but this time, ensure it maps to a fresh USB virtual port instead of reusing an old one.

Disable “bidirectional support” (this is a common trigger for the extra page).

Go to Printer Properties → Ports → uncheck “Enable bidirectional support.”

Default to a stable print queue

If users hop between sites, it helps to give each printer a clean install, avoiding duplicate queues. Too many duplicate installs can confuse the print subsystem and cause error sheets.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Good morning,

To respond to your post, essentially yes I've done all those things.

The printer Drivers installed are the HP OfficeJet 8010 series PCL-3. This is the driver that is currently available on HP's website and the only one that seems to work for these printers that I've found.

I've reinstalled these printers multiple times, each time mapping them to a new Virtual USB port. I've noticed sometimes Windows will create new Virtual USB ports seemingly randomly however this doesn't seem to be causing this issue. The "Enable Bidirectional Support" button is also unchecked and greyed out on all these devices.

So far the only solution that I have found to consistently work is to restart the printer spooler service and then restart the machine. Since these users are not admins on their machines they are not able to restart any services through the task manager.

@DavDer, Thanks for the detailed follow-up.

@zoey7886 is away and I will do my best to assist.
I completely understand how disruptive this issue can be, especially with remote staff and limited admin access.

You're absolutely right: the extra page with the GET /DevMgmt/DiscoveryTree.xml message is typically caused by a miscommunication between the printer driver and the spooler, especially when using virtual USB ports and multiple printer instances. Since you've already confirmed the correct PCL-3 driver is installed, bidirectional support is disabled (and greyed out), and you've remapped USB ports during reinstalls, you've covered all the standard troubleshooting steps.

Given that restarting the Print Spooler service consistently resolves the issue, here are a few suggestions to help mitigate this without requiring admin rights from the end users:

Deploy a Script to Restart the Spooler at Login (Admin Setup Required Once)
You can create a small script or scheduled task that runs at user login to restart the spooler automatically. This can be deployed remotely by your tech team with admin rights. Here's a simple batch script:

net stop spooler

net start spooler

This can be wrapped into a scheduled task with elevated privileges and set to run at login. Once deployed, users won’t need to manually restart anything.

Let us know if you'd like help packaging this into a deployable format.

Disable Web Services / SNMP (If Supported)
Some OfficeJet models allow disabling Web Services or SNMP via the Embedded Web Server (EWS) or printer control panel. This can prevent the printer from attempting to fetch /DevMgmt/ data.

  • Disable:
    • Web Services
    • SNMP Status
    • ePrint / Cloud Print

This may reduce unnecessary status queries that trigger the extra page.

Consider HP Smart App for Printing
If possible, try printing via the HP Smart app instead of traditional driver-based printing. It handles communication differently and may suppress these status pages.

Clean Up Duplicate Queues
Ensure each printer is installed only once per site. Multiple “Copy 1”, “Copy 2” queues can confuse the print subsystem and lead to spooler errors.

I hope this helps!
