I had to reinstall my HP Officejet Pro 8625 drivers to my PC.  I've made sure that the old ones are uninstalled, and that I rebooted my PC.  I tried to reinstall the printer software/drivers from the disc that came with my printer, and also I've tried downloading the software/drivers from HP (the downloaded file is called OJ8620_198.exe).  No matter which way I try it, I still get the above message.  How do I fix this?  I really want to print and also use my HP scanner.  When I try to use the scanner, it says it can't find HPScan.exe.  How do I fix this as well?

@Josie1234,

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.

Going through your post, I understand you are having issues related to your HP Printer. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

How is the printer connected? USB/Wireless?

Did you try to do a root level uninstall and reinstall of the printer drivers

In the meantime, let's try these steps here: Perform a Hard reset on the printer,

Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

If you’re running Windows, I would start by checking the installed printer software by downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor. This tool can diagnose and fix many printing and printer software related issues. Please use this link to help you with that information: http://hp.care/2biN2XE

If the issue persists, I would suggest the next step would be to do a root level uninstall and reinstall of the printer drivers:

  • Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
  • Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
  • Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
  • Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
  • Now check for issue resolution.
  • If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP OfficeJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Please click here (Please select the Operating system and version of Windows before downloading and installing the printer software).
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Restart the computer and the printer and then to print and check.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

Hi Jeet,

I did everything in the order you specified below (and did it twice from scratch) and got mixed results.  I can print to the printer if I am in MS-Word with the printer cable attached. I still cannot scan anything into my computer.  When I go to the Windows icon -> All Programs -> HP-> HP Officejet Pro 8620 ->HP Scan, I stil get the message : Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Officejet Pro 8620\bin\HPScan.exe'.  Make sure you typed the name correctly nd then try again.

Also if I click on the  Windows icon -> All Programs -> HP-> HP Officejet Pro 8620 ->HP Officejet Pro 8620, I get the message: Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Officejet Pro 8620\bin\HP Officejet Pro 8620.exe'.  Make sure you typed the name correctly nd then try again.

You asked if I wanted to set it up with the cable or wirelessly, and I would prefer the cable as that has worked in the past, but either way would be good. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Janet

@Josie1234,

Thank you for replying,

After reviewing your post thoroughly, I understand you have tried the steps suggested and still having the issue. Don't worry as I have a few other steps which should help you resolve this issue.

I would suggest you follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP Printers - 'No Scan Options' Message Displays on Printer (Windows)

Here's a related Forums post which seems to have helped others: Click here This post has an accepted solution provided by an Expert @banhien.

If you have followed the steps suggested and still having the issue, In this scenario I would suggest here is to get the printer connected using Wireless.

Run the Wireless setup wizard on the printer:

1. From the printer control panel display, touch and slide your finger across the screen and then

touch Setup.

2. Touch Network Setup.

3. Touch Wireless Settings.

4. Touch Wireless Setup Wizard.

5. Follow the display instructions to complete the setup.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to do a root level uninstall and reinstall of the printer drivers.

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Photosmart printer entries and uninstall them.
  • In the connection type window, select “Wireless” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Could you please respond to this post with the details and with the results of the troubleshooting as this will help me in further assisting you.

Eagerly waiting for your response!
