HP OfficeJet 8012e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

After adding an OfficeJet 8012e printer to HP Smart application on a new computer, it automatically went through an HP+ program activation without my consent or any other option to choose, then I received an email from HP thanking me for choosing HP+ with a list of advantages it provides.

My main issue with HP+ is that it requires a continuous internet connection, which I am simply not able to provide every time I need to print. Not to mention, I was not presented possibility to decline the HP+ enrolment.

From my search results, I found out most of the replies stating it is an irreversible process (which is even worse), which was also confirmed by HP Live Chat support. However, I also found out reply from a HP forum moderator saying it is irreversible from user's side, but can be requested over an HP Phone Support, with receiving a confirmation that HP+ was deactivated.

Can anyone please confirm whether it is indeed possible to deactivate HP+ by any means for any cost? I don't care for any of the bells and whistles that HP+ and/or Instant Ink offer, I need plain print and scan functionality.

Thank you,

Jan

Welcome to the HP Community --

I have a printer on which I enabled the HP+ service contract.

I do not recall that the contract was enabled without my having given permission.

?

That said,

No, I do not know of a way to rescind the HP+ contract once it is enabled.

Too, the printer is an older model -- While the print and scan benefits are added when the HP+ is enabled, the benefit of an extended warranty is not available.

True - if you cannot meet the requirements, the printer will be more difficult or impossible to manage.

For those reading - Information

Reminders

HP Instant Ink and HP+ are two separate service contracts.

AND

An HP Instant Ink subscription is not required as part of the HP+ setup or the HP+ service contract.

Hello @Dragon-Fur

Thank you for your quick and exhaustive reply. I would like to revisit the setup process in HP Smart to confirm whether I indeed had a possibility to decline HP+, but it is automatically configured at this point. I will have to accept it as is.

Can you also review this claim by @Nal_NR in another topic in this forum? I don't want to point fingers, but if HP+ is irreversible as you also confirmed, then their claim is perhaps a bit misleading?

"Note: HP+ cannot be turned off manually from the user interface. You’ll need to contact HP Phone Support to request deactivation. if the troubleshooting steps do not help.

  • Provide your printer’s details (serial number and model) and ask them to deactivate the HP+ service. Once processed, you'll receive confirmation that HP+ is deactivated."

(extract above taken from here)

Thank you,

Jan

@Spooky_

You are welcome.

My understanding HP+ is based on my experience and my interpretation of the contract.

Those of us who do not work for HP do not have any authority to speak for any Moderator - Nor can we speak for any HP Agent, or comment on any HP policy.  We - Experts - are "outside" of internal processes and / or policies.

The printer is a few years old at this point, I can understand you do not want or need to have changed the way it is used -- I simply do not have a way to intervene with HP on your behalf.

I will bump another request to the Moderators --

Should there be a response, look for a message here before the agent uses other methods to contact you.

All FAQs

Section "What are the requirements of HP+ ? "

HP+ requires an HP account, Internet connection, and use of Original HP Ink for the lifetime of the printer. Once activated, HP+ is embedded in the device and will require the use of Original HP Ink for the lifetime of the printer.

AND / OR

Section "What if I don't want HP+ ?"

Excerpted (at the time of this writing)

HP customers have options when purchasing HP printers. There are functionally equivalent HP printers available without HP+.

For HP OfficeJet Pro 8000e and 9000e Series printers, DeskJet 2700e and 4100e Series, and ENVY 6000e and 6400e Series, a customer can choose to skip HP+ activation during printer setup. Skipping HP+ activation at set up means that a customer cannot access HP+ benefits.

Thank you,  @Dragon-Fur,

for your insights and interpretations. I didn't mean to sound harsh nor to demand any interventions or anything of this kind from you. I am simply seeking further clarification on something which is (most likely) already answered and set.

I will wait for a bit for any answer either from a moderator or HP staff (thank you for forwarding my query) before I close this topic.

Best regards,

Jan

Understood -- not everyone is forgiving of our position.  Smiling.

I don't know how it happened -- HP+ is not supposed to sneak in -- perhaps an agent can shed like on the subject.

Reminder to those reading

There are two models in this series -

The Non-e version of the printer would not offer HP+.

The non-e series (8012 "no" e) is eligible to run the extra features without HP+ having been enabled.

=====================================

Yeah, but - I have the 8012e -- for whatever reason, I am stuck with HP+ ...

I suspect that at some point if you cannot run Web Services to keep the printer on the Internet that you will have to replace the printer.  😶
