Hi @ADW239,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Disabling printer firmware to use generic cartridges is generally not recommended, as most manufacturers, including HP, design their printers to work optimally with genuine cartridges. However, I can suggest a few alternatives and considerations:
1. Check for Firmware Updates:
- Sometimes, firmware updates can inadvertently restrict the use of third-party cartridges. If you're looking to use a generic cartridge, check if there's an older firmware version available that might not have those restrictions, but this can be risky and may void your warranty.
2. Use Compatible Cartridges:
- Look for cartridges specifically labeled as compatible with your printer model. Many third-party brands offer cartridges that have been tested for compatibility with specific HP models.
3. Reset the Printer:
- Occasionally, resetting the printer can help clear any settings that might restrict cartridge usage:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it for about 5 minutes. Plug it back in and turn it on.
4. Printer Settings:
- In some cases, you may find settings within your printer's software that allow you to adjust preferences for ink usage or cartridge types. Check the HP Smart app or your printer settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
