HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

The HP 8720 has a power sleep feature. The only options are 5, 10,  or 15 minutes.  I would like to turn sleep mode off.  Is there a command to do that?  If so, what is it?

Thanks

Hi @brussteck ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 allows you to adjust sleep mode settings but does not have an option to completely disable it. However, you can extend the time before it goes into sleep mode, effectively minimizing its impact. Here's how to do it:

Adjust Sleep Mode Settings on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8720:

Access the Printer's Control Panel:

  • On the printer's touchscreen, tap the gear icon or Setup.

Navigate to Sleep Mode Settings:

  • Select Preferences or Power Management (this might vary depending on the firmware version).
  • Look for Sleep Mode or Energy Save Mode.

Change the Sleep Mode Timer:

  • Adjust the timer to the maximum available value (e.g., 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or more).

Confirm and Save Changes:

  • Tap OK or Save to confirm your settings.

Additional Steps for Extended Usage:

  • If the settings above do not meet your needs, you can keep the printer "awake" by scheduling tasks such as regular status checks or print jobs. This prevents the printer from entering sleep mode automatically.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm aware of the sleep mode and the maximum value is 15 minutes.   Anything other than "never" or 24 hours are the only values that I would find useful, but thanks for the detailed explanation that may help someone else.

Your response was direct and clear. But not having a "disable sleep mode" really sucks and is very inconvenient and troublesome. I  will probably get rid of my HP M404 and never buy another HP product again. Thank you.
