HP ENVY Pro 6475 All-In-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Almost nothing annoys me more than devices or apps that don't have common sense options for settings.  It seems this printer, HP ENVY Pro 6475 All-In-One Printer, doesn't have a way to disable the idiotic auto-off "feature".  If it does indeed have one, it is very well hidden.  The only setting I have found that is remotely applicable is one that changes the timer for when the auto-off kicks in.  And wouldn't you know it, THAT can't be changed either despite a button that says "Change".   I am posting here on the off chance that I have indeed missed it somehow.  Someone please tell me there is a way to disable it and how to do that.   You might just save the life of this otherwise somewhat functional printer.

@SnottyKitty, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand you would like to disable the auto-off feature on the printer.

This feature turns the printer off after 2 hours of inactivity to help reduce energy use. Auto-Off turns the printer off completely, so you must use the Power button to turn the printer back on. If your printer supports this energy-saving feature, Auto-Off is automatically enabled or disabled depending on printer capabilities and connection options. Even when Auto-Off is disabled, the printer enters Energy Save Mode after 5 minutes of inactivity to help reduce energy use.

● Auto-Off is always enabled if the printer does not have network or fax capability.

● Auto-Off is disabled when a printer’s wireless or Wi-Fi Direct capability is turned on or when a printer with fax, USB, or Ethernet network capability establishes a fax, USB, or Ethernet network connection.

You have copied and pasted what is on page 14 of the user manual and provided a link to that same material.  When this became an issue, the first thing I did was go to this exact page and read it to see if there was a way to disable auto-off.  In addition, I did a thorough search in the HP knowledge base and failed to find anything more.  I understand the purpose of this "feature".  I understand how it works and why it works as it does.  What I still don't know is how to turn it off.  I don't want it.  I would like to disable it.  I realize you are trying to help, but I'm not sure how you could think simply repeating what's in the user manual would be helpful since it doesn't in any way address my question.

Honestly, I feared there was no way to turn it off and my post was just a last gasp effort.  It would have been a lot more honest of you to just say that.  Perhaps HP should add another button beside the "Accept As Solution" button.  How about one that says, "There is no solution because HP has decided you won't be provided the means to use your printer the way you would like to."  Is that not more accurate?

@SnottyKitty

There is no way to turn it off. It is as per the design. I will forward your feedback to the respective team in HP.

I hope that answers your concern adequately. Keep me posted for any other assistance.
