HP DeskJet 2724 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I've recently bought an HP Deskjet 2724 All-in-One Printer and so far so good except with the scan functionality.

In scan, I don't see the options that make use of OCR, i.e. 'scan to text' or 'searchable PDF'.

The software used was downloaded from HP

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-deskjet-2700-all-in-one-printer-series/29378157

In both laptops at home, we have either Windows 10 Pro 64 bits or Windows 10 Home 64bits.

We've installed:

  • HP Smart
  • HP Easy Start Printer, 13.6.5 from Jan 11, 2022
  • HP Print and Scan Doctor, 5.6.3 from Dec 09, 2021

I've repeated the 'HP Easy Start Printer' installation process several times  (with both packages versions: offline and web access) and followed the steps proposed in  https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/HP-Smart-does-not-allow-OCR-scan/td-p/8... (including the step removing the driver from the windows registry). No luck!

HP Print and Scan Doctor reports that everything is up-to-date and correctly configured.

So as last resort:

  1. Does the HP Deskjet 2724 Software support OCR?
  2. How can I check if I have the full driver?
  3. Any suggestion for further steps on troubleshooting?

Many thanks in advance

No,

Such lower-end printers does not support OCR, you may find its specifications below, it doesn't support any OCR :

You may try the 3rd party freeware NAPS2 scanning software, it does offer some OCR capabilities (PDF Searchable):

https://www.naps2.com/doc-ocr.html

As well you may get any OCR software such as IRIS OCR, OmniPage OCR, etc., but these would likely require a fee.
