Officejet 6970
Microsoft Windows 11

Just had the crappiest and most arrogant response from an HP agent on the phone.

I have been using Officejet MFP's with Acrobat DC for scanning in Windows (8 & 10) in Parallels VM for years.  I recently upgraded to new Macbook M1 and had to install Windows 11 ARM64 OS in Parallels 17 VM.  All other apps that I use work fine.  I could not install printer and scanner drivers using the "full" installation pack from HP download, but suddenly have to install drivers for Officejet 6970 using the HP Smart App.  It looks like it now only supports WIA scanner drivers and TWAIN not available anymore.

I called HP support about the issue, and on the first call I was curtly informed that HP does not support VM's after which the agent promptly put the phone down in my ear.  I called again and found the same agent.  I explained progress made and issues with trying to install TWAIN drivers separately.  His response was simply that HP does not support VM installations.
This is officially the last HP product I will buy EVER again!

Is there anybody out there that may have a solution with the Officejet until I manage to buy another scanner that does actually support TWAIN scanner drivers for Windows11 in a VM?

The issue might be related to the arm processor. You could try downloading the Universal Scan driver package which does offer twain support but may or may not be listed as officially supporting your printer but my experience is that some devices not listed still work.

If you find the information provided useful or solves your problems, help other users find the solution easier by marking my post as an accepted solution. Clicking "yes" on "was this reply helpful" also increases the chances that this solution will help others.

Hi Trooper

Thanks for the advice.  Excuse my ignorance, but are you referring to HP, Windows or other Universal Driver.  I did a search on the web and couldn't find anything.  Will appreciate if you could point me in the right direction with a URL?!

Update for anyone that is interested.

I was PM'd by HP support person after my original post.  This person really tried to assist via several PM's leading up to a new HP ticket being opened this morning (around 09:00 UTC+2:00).  Approx seven minutes later I received another e-mail from HP support with the following message:
We regret to inform you HP does not offer support for setting up printers on Virtual Machines as we can not guarantee stability or full compatibility.

In essence the same response I received from HP support that led to my original post RE Windows 11 ARM and TWAIN scanner drivers.

My take on this is that HP couldnt give a rat's arse about customers using VM's (and I am sure there are plenty).  Why remove/downgrade a product (the complete software/driver install software) that was working fine and replace it with HP Smart and limited functionality?!

If this is their attitude to customers I am NEVER buying from HP again and will look for product and support somewhere else.
