My new (1 day old) Smart Tank 7605 does not shut down after 2 hours, despite my having selected this on the control panel

Well, now I feel very foolish - although my embarrasment is tempered by the thought that the HP Support "professional", with whom I spent over 40 minutes yesterday updating software, did not point it out to me.

In HP Smart, whern trying to set Auto-off, it says, "This feature is automatically disabled when the printer is connected to a computer or mobile device, a network, or a fax line (if supported)."  So it was designed not to work, whe the printer is connected to a PC, or my local network!

Further in my defence, I was tryng to set it using the front panel on the printer, where the option is offered, with no caveats, even when the printer is connected - why is the option not disabled with a message "not available when connected to a PC or network"?

I have found that many devices will not power down if any supply is showing as low. I assume this is to preserve ink that would be used in a startup cycle. (Only my guess). It may also be that something on your computer or network is pinging the printer and keeping it awake. To test this theory, disconnect any USB or network and shut off the wireless and see if it goes into standby. If it does you will need to figure out what is keeping it awake.

Thanks for those thoughts.

It is not short on supplies, as it is only one day old and I filled all the inks, as part of the setup process.

I will investigate your other suggestion,  but that will have to wait for tomorrow.

Well, I tried disconnecting Ethernet and turning off WiFi and Bluetooth.  Left it overnight and it did not turn off.

I am now trying setting the Auto-shutdown via the HP Smart app on my win 10 PC.  That also offered an option to shut down every evening at a pre-set time, so I am trying that also.
