HP OfficeJet Pro 7740
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The OfficeJet Pro has a glass panel measuring 11" x 17".  Other copiers with that size glass have a feature that will let you copy an 11" x 17" original (or an open book) to 2 separate 8.5" x 11" sheets.  This is sometimes called a Split or Book copy feature.  The website for the 7740 doesn't go into that much detail about the copy settings.  Does anyone know if this function is available on the 7740?  Many thanks from a first time forum member!

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you want to know how to do double-sided copies on your printer.

Follow these steps:-

  1. Load the original into the scanner.

    • Scanner glass: Lift the scanner lid, position the original print side down on the glass according to the guide on the printer, and then close the scanner lid.

Examples of scanner glass alignment guides

    • Automatic Document Feeder (ADF): Load a single or multi-page document according to the guide on the tray. For most models, load the document print side up and top edge first. Adjust the paper-width guides until they rest gently against the edges of the paper.

      CAUTION:

The ADF mechanism can damage photos. To copy or scan photos, use an alternate method, such as the scanner glass or your mobile device camera with the HP Smart app.

  2. On the printer control panel, touch Copy or Copy Document.

  3. Touch Settings or the Gear icon  to view more copy settings.

  4. Open the 2-Sided Copying menu, and then enable the feature.

    • Touch On or select the box next to the setting name.

    • Touch the menu to display a list of two-sided copying options.

  5. Start the copy job. Load the second side or flip the document if prompted.

Hello Sandy,

I appreciate your response but I didn't mention anything about double-sided copies in my question.  The HP interface is easy to understand if I wanted to copy on both sides.  What I'm looking for here is a feature that will allow me to open a book on the panel so 2 pages will be on the glass.  I want to have the option to copy what is on the glass to two 8.5" x 11" sheets of paper.  So the first page of the book will be on one sheet and the second page will be on another.  The Epson that has an 11" x 17" glass can do this and I was hoping that the 7740 could as well.

There is no option to split the document which you have copied in this printer model.
