Subject: Request for Firmware Downgrade Tool for HP DeskJet 2721

Dear HP Support Team,

I am writing to request access to a software tool that would allow me to downgrade the firmware of my HP DeskJet 2721 printer. After a recent update, my printer refuses to accept a newly purchased ink cartridge that is certified compatible but not manufactured by HP.

This situation is problematic, as it prevents me from using legitimate third‑party cartridges. As you are aware, consumer protection laws in many jurisdictions prohibit manufacturers from restricting customers to proprietary consumables when certified alternatives are available. Customers must retain the right to choose compatible cartridges without being forced into exclusive use of HP‑branded products.

I kindly ask that you provide me with a solution—specifically, a firmware downgrade tool or instructions—that will restore my printer’s ability to accept certified compatible cartridges. Doing so would demonstrate HP’s respect for consumer rights and ensure that customers like myself can continue to use your products without unnecessary limitations.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response.

Sincerely,

Dr Chaari

As far as I know, these are the only HP inkjet type printers that can use non-HP ink.

Major printer manufacturers, including HP, Epson, Canon, and most recently Brother, use Digital Rights Management (DRM), chip technology, and firmware updates to restrict the use of third-party or non-branded ink cartridges.

A firmware downgrade will required use of a specialized programming tool.
