Welcome to the HP Community --

The printer is not designed to run on "very old firmware" --

You might be able to set the printer back to Factory defaults --

Doing so will not "stick" --

Even should you not select it, the firmware will update as it must.

Nonetheless, you can try it.

Reminder

Restoring Factory Settings removes all the printer settings, including all Quick Sets and Network settings.

and / or

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section General > Restore Default Settings > Restore Network Settings OR Restore All Factory Defaults

FYI Only

If you are attempting to run "old firmware" as a means to use non-HP ink without an embedded HP Chip -- and yes, people try this -- the printer is not designed to support this action.  Ink cartridges used in the printer must have an embedded HP chip.  Reference:   HP Printers - Dynamic Security Enabled Printers

If you are attempting to run "old firmware" as a means to rescind / disable the HP+ service contract -- it won't work.  Although you can destroy / disable the premium print and scan apps, the service portion of the HP+ contract that requires HP genuine ink (not just refilled with chip) cannot be removed.

I would put 3/4 firmware before the last, because there are Better options
