How do I downgrade firmware for 0fficejet pro 6960 to allow non HP cartridges to work

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are unable to use non-HP cartridges.

HP printers are designed to work with original HP ink and toner cartridges. As is standard in the printing business, HP printers use a process to authenticate cartridges. In certain HP printers, this authentication process includes dynamic security measures. Dynamic security relies on the printer’s ability to communicate with the security chips or electronic circuitry on the cartridges. HP uses dynamic security measures to protect the quality of our customer experience, maintain the integrity of our printing systems, and protect our intellectual property.

I have used HP Printers for business use since the first colour Deskjet and used compatible ink refills and cartridges from the very beginning, all on the official HP understanding  that damage caused by non HP cartridges would invalidate the guarantee. I bought my last printer, an OfficeJet Pro 6960 in 2017 on the same understanding and have used compatible ink ever since, that is until last week when it was suddenly blocked from using compatible cartridges. I would be grateful if you would tell me how to get it working with my existing compatible cartridges as I have never paid for or entered into a contract with HP to solely use their HP ink cartridges in this printer. I Look forward to receiving a fix. Thanks John
