IRIS OCR
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Update: Never mind. I finally tracked down the emails with instructions. 😀

*****

Several years ago I had purchased an upgrade to the IRIS OCR scanning software. Since then, I have changed my printer and my computer. I no longer have the program on my system and I have lost the emails relating to my purchase and instructions on how to download it. How can I recover this information?

Printer: HP Envy 7858

PC: Microsoft Surface Pro 6, Windows 10

There is no Community solution for lost purchase information.

We don't have any access to your purchase history.

HP might have the information but it might be difficult to find out and could cost more than purchasing your OCR software.

Printer Specifications do not not mention OCR as an included feature (so no automatic help there).

What to do?

If your Full Feature Software does not include OCR software - and completely aside from the unsolvable issue that you purchased and then lost software - there are alternatives.

Possible but not recently checked:

HP Scan Extended

Note:

This is "old" software - circa 2015 - it may work AND it MIGHT include OCR.

Heed the requirement that you have previously installed the Full Feature Software for your printer.

  • Download-Save-Install >  HP Scan Extended
  • HPSE is a subset an older Full Feature Software suite.
  • HPSE features are very similar to the HP Scan Software released after 2015.
  • Although HPSE appears to be a separate software, HPSE is dependent on the infrastructure provided by the Full Feature Software.  The Full Feature Software for your printer should be installed before installing and using HPSE.
  • OPTIONAL:  Add HP Scan Extended shortcut to Taskbar / Send to Desktop / Pin to Start
    • Open File Explorer > Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Scan Extended\bin
    • Right-Click HPScan.exe > Select Pin to Taskbar / Send to Desktop / Pin to Start

  • HP Scan Extended features include (and are not limited to): Single, Multiple scans, Image and PDF scans, Email as PDF / JPEG, Source selection, Page Size choices include Auto-Detect (extracts image / document boundary).  Might include OCR (Save as Editable Text).

NAPS2 – “Not Another PDF Scanner”

  • Download-Save-Install >  NAPS2
  • Not another PDF Scanner – free program scans PDF files and image(s) as .jpeg or PDF file(s).
  • Includes an OCR feature – may need Ghostscript add-on (See NAPS2 forum entry)
  • Read the Support pages for information
  • Download, save, and install the NAPS2 software to use.

Thank you for your reply. I was actually able to find the email with instructions and reinstall the software. (I had edited my original post with this.)

Why I couldn't find it at first was because I was searching for IRIS and I.R.I.S., whereas the actual software is called Readiris.
