Hi @Woodclyffe,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

When your HP ENVY 5020 All-In-One Printer goes offline due to a repeated message and attempts to download something, it could be due to a firmware update, software update, or a communication issue. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

Step 1: Cancel any Ongoing Downloads or Updates

  1. Cancel Downloads:
    • If your printer is trying to download a firmware update or any other software, cancel it if possible.
    • Go to the printer's control panel and look for any options to cancel the download or update.

Step 2: Check Printer Status

Verify Printer Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your Wi-Fi network or connected via USB to your computer.
  • Check the printer’s display panel to confirm it is connected to the network.

Restart Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
  • Wait for 60 seconds and then plug the power cord back in.
  • Turn on the printer and check if it goes back online.

Step 3: Update Printer Firmware Manually

Download Firmware Manually:

  • Visit the HP Support website and search for your HP ENVY 5020 printer.
  • Download the latest firmware for your printer model.

Install Firmware:

  • Follow the instructions provided on the HP website to install the firmware manually.
  • Ensure that the printer stays connected to power and the network during the update.

Step 4: Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

Uninstall Printer Drivers:

  • Open "Control Panel" > "Devices and Printers."
  • Right-click your HP ENVY 5020 printer and select "Remove device."
  • Go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners."
  • Select your HP ENVY 5020 printer and click the "-" button to remove it.

Download and Install Latest Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your HP ENVY 5020 printer.
  • Install the drivers and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your printer again.

Kindly check the next set of steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Woodclyffe,

Please find the next set of steps below.

Step 5: Disable Printer Status Notification

  1. Disable Notifications:
    • Sometimes, printer status notifications can interfere with the printing process.
    • Open the HP printer software on your computer and navigate to the settings.
    • Look for an option to disable printer status notifications and turn it off.

Step 6: Reset Network Settings on the Printer

Reset Network Settings:

  • On the printer's control panel, go to "Setup" > "Network Setup" > "Restore Network Settings."
  • Confirm the reset and reconfigure your wireless settings.

Reconnect to Network:

  • Follow the prompts on the printer to reconnect it to your Wi-Fi network.

Step 7: Check and Configure Printer Port Settings (Windows)

  1. Check Printer Port:
    • Open "Control Panel" > "Devices and Printers."
    • Right-click your HP ENVY 5020 printer and select "Printer properties."
    • Go to the "Ports" tab and ensure that the correct port is selected (usually, it should be a WSD port or a Standard TCP/IP port).

If the issue persists after trying these steps, let's try a semi-full reset and see if that works as a last resort.

For that to happen, we will give you additional instructions/information via Private Message.

Please check your inbox on the forums page for the private message.
