I got a new lap top (Lenovo Thinkpad).  I spent 1.5 hours online with my company's tech support yesterday.

We downloaded the drivers for my MFP M125nw printer (over and over) but we could never get the lap top to "see" the printer...we tried a direct connection through USB cables, autodetect with wifi and manually entering the IP address.

It just never could see the printer.

I need assistance.

Hi @AlisaDimitroff,

If your Lenovo ThinkPad is unable to detect your HP LaserJet MFP M125nw printer through USB, Wi-Fi, or manual IP address entry, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

  1. Check Connection Types:

    • USB Connection: Ensure that the USB cable is securely connected to both your laptop and printer. Try a different USB port or cable if possible.
    • Wi-Fi Connection: Make sure the printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network. You can usually verify this through the printer's display or network settings.
  2. Driver Installation:

    • Confirm that you have installed the correct drivers for your printer model. Visit the HP Support page for the latest drivers for your HP LaserJet MFP M125nw.
  3. Check Printer Settings:

    • On the printer, navigate to the network settings and verify the IP address. Ensure it matches the one you're trying to connect to manually.
    • Verify that the printer’s Wi-Fi is enabled and it’s connected to the correct network.
  4. Disable Firewall:

    • Sometimes, firewalls can block connections. Temporarily disable any firewalls on your laptop to see if this allows connectivity.
  5. Check for Conflicting Devices:

    • Make sure there are no conflicting devices with similar IP addresses or device names on your network.
  6. HP Print and Scan Doctor:

    • Consider using the HP Print and Scan Doctor, a free tool that helps diagnose and resolve printing and scanning issues. It can assist in detecting and fixing problems related to connectivity.
  7. Router and Network Check:

    • Restart your router and ensure that its firmware is up to date. Check if other devices can connect to the printer via the same network.
  8. System and Driver Updates:

    • Ensure that your laptop and printer firmware are updated to the latest versions. Use the HP Support Assistant tool to help with this process.
  9. Manual IP Assignment:

    • Try assigning a static IP to the printer through router settings to reduce connectivity issues.
