Help! I have an HP Office Jet Pro 8020 All in One series printer that I cannot seem to get to work consistently anymore. I am constantly having to do battle to get it to print. Now it is saying "Driver check issue not fixed." I can't even get it added correctly to my system anymore.

Hi @RevMPC

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I completely understand how frustrating it can be when your printer keeps giving you issues, especially when it comes to something like the “Driver check issue not fixed” error.

Let's go through some steps to get your HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 working smoothly again.

Step 1: Completely Uninstall the Printer Driver

Sometimes, the driver installation gets corrupted, and it may need to be fully removed before reinstalling. Here's how to do it:

Uninstall the Printer from Your System:

Open Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.

Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 printer and click Remove Device.

Uninstall the Printer Drivers:

Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.

Look for HP Smart or HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 driver software and uninstall it.

Make sure to remove any leftover HP software as well.

Restart your computer to ensure everything is removed.

Step 2: Install the Latest HP Printer Drivers

Once you've removed the old driver, it’s important to install the latest version:

Download the Latest Driver:

Go to the official HP Support website.

Enter your HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 model and select Windows 10/11 as the operating system.

Download the latest printer driver package (this will include the necessary drivers, software, and updates).

Install the Driver:

Run the driver installation file you just downloaded.

During installation, make sure to select USB or Wi-Fi connection based on how you intend to connect the printer.

Follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Step 3: Check Windows Updates

Ensure your operating system is up to date, as sometimes outdated Windows components can cause driver issues:

Open Settings > Windows Update.

Click Check for Updates.

Install any available updates, especially optional driver updates related to printers.

Step 4: Ensure Printer is Set as Default

Sometimes, the printer can get misconfigured as not the default printer, which can lead to issues with printing:

Open Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.

Right-click on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 and select Set as Default Printer.

Step 5: Reboot the Printer

Perform a soft reset of your printer:

Turn off the HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 printer.

Unplug the power cable from the printer for at least 30 seconds.

Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Step 6: Check Connection (USB or Wi-Fi)

Sometimes connection issues between your printer and computer can cause this error:

If using Wi-Fi, ensure the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network by printing a network configuration page from the printer's control panel.

If using USB, check the cable for any damage or loose connections. Try using a different port on your computer.

Step 7: Perform a Printer Reset

If the steps above don’t work, resetting the printer to factory settings can help:

On the printer's control panel, go to Setup or Settings.

Navigate to Printer Maintenance or Restore Defaults (this may vary depending on the model).

Select the option to restore the printer to its factory settings.

This will clear any errors stored in the printer’s memory.

Let me know how it goes or if you need further assistance with any of these steps!

Hello Hawks_Eye,

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, I am unable to locate the printer drivers to try and uninstall. Where exactly would they be on a MAC? Where would I access this information? Additionally, I am not running Windows. The instructions provided seem to be geared to a Windows user.
