After upgrading from macOS 14.6 Sonoma to macOS 15.0.1 Sequoia, my HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn printer stopped being recognized via a direct cable--not wireless--connection (Print Center: "The printer is not responding"). The latest available driver for this printer model doesn't recognize the OS at all ("This update requires macOS version 15.0 or earlier"), and the latest HP EasyAdmin utility doesn't include this printer model among its supported devices. Has any other owner of this model found an alternative driver that works with the latest Sequoia? Does HP eventually upgrade its drivers to be compatible with Apple's latest macOS dot releases?

Hi @HastaLaManana,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems you’re facing a common issue after upgrading to macOS 15.0.1 Sequoia, where the HP LaserJet P1606dn printer isn't recognized. Here are some steps and suggestions to help you resolve the problem.
Check for New Drivers:
- HP's Official Website: Regularly check the HP Support website for updates specific to your printer model. Sometimes, drivers are released after an OS update.
- Apple Software Update: Go to System Preferences > Software Update to check for any available printer updates from Apple.
Use Generic PostScript Driver:
- As a workaround, you can try using the built-in generic PostScript driver:
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Remove your existing printer.
- Click the + button to add a printer.
- In the list, choose your printer, then select "Generic PostScript Printer" from the "Use" dropdown.
- This driver may provide basic functionality without full feature support.
Check Connection Settings:
- Ensure the printer is properly connected via USB and try different ports on your Mac.
- Restart both your Mac and the printer to refresh connections.
Reset Printing System:
- If the problem persists, you can reset the printing system:
- Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list and select "Reset printing system."
- After resetting, re-add your printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Unfortunately none of the suggestions offered has resolved the problem. Since my printing needs cannot wait until HP updates its P1606dn-compatible driver to work with macOS 15.0.1, I've purchased a new home office HP printer to see if having the latest and greatest WiFi connected device puts me back in business. (And if not, at least I'll have warranty coverage to pursue proper support.)
