I need driver software for my Deskjet D1520 that'll work on my new computer which runs Windows 11. My old computer ran Windows 10... before it died... and the printer worked great with that old computer. HP's website says that they no longer provide that driver software. A person posted a note on this forum saying that you can use Windows's built-in drivers to run the Deskjet D1520. Howevver, that's not working for me. When I follow the directions for doing that, nothing happens after I connect the printer. Here;s a link to where the person on this forum made that claim... https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/My-printer-D1520-stopped-working-I-can-...).
Is there not any atchival website on the internet where I can download the old driver software?
Is there something I can do to get Window's built-in drivers to work for me?

Hi @DRHendricks,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP Deskjet D1520 working on your Windows 11 computer, you can try the following steps:
1. Use Windows Update
Windows Update often has drivers for older hardware. Here’s how to check:
- Connect your printer to the computer and turn it on.
- Open Settings: Press Win + I to open the Settings app.
- Go to Update & Security.
- Click on Windows Update and then select Check for updates.
- Windows Update should automatically detect the connected printer and attempt to download and install the necessary drivers.
2. Use Compatibility Mode
If the above steps do not work, you can try installing the Windows 11 driver in Software and Drivers for the HP Deskjet D1520 Printer
- Download the Windows 11 driver for HP Deskjet D1520 from a trusted third-party website or from your previous backups if available.
- Right-click on the driver installer file and select Properties.
- Go to the Compatibility tab.
- Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select Windows 10 from the dropdown menu.
- Click Apply and then OK.
- Run the installer.
3. Manually Add the Printer
If the printer is not being recognized automatically, you can manually add it:
- Connect your printer to the computer and turn it on.
- Open Settings: Press Win + I to open the Settings app.
- Go to Devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Click Add a printer or scanner.
- Wait for your printer to appear in the list and select it. If it doesn’t appear, click on "The printer that I want isn't listed."
- Select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.
- Choose the appropriate port (usually USB001).
- In the next screen, choose HP from the Manufacturer list and HP Deskjet D1500 series (or similar) from the Printers list. If the specific model is not listed, you may have to select a generic driver or another Deskjet driver that is close to your model.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
