OK, so here we go. I installed new color cartridges and HP thought I should update my old driver, so I did. Tried. Tried a few times but no.. so my computor locked itself. I tried to use it but no, could get access to it. So I tried to uninstall my soft ware on my computor but it didn't work either. I contacted HP support.. and they suggested to install their "print doctor" and.. no. Couldn't install it. Can't use it, can't install it and can't update it. What to do?

Hi! @Lars-Konrad, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

Don't worry I'll try to help you out. Let me ask you a few questions in order to assist you better.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Are you the administrator of the PC?

Have you tried installing the printer on a different PC?

Let's continue with the troubleshooting steps now.

Please try few steps recommended below.

First, uninstall the printer software from the root level and give permissions for the program files folder.

In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
Select your HP printer.
Select Uninstall.
In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
Click on Drivers tab.
Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.
Select OK.
Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
Close Devices and Printers.

Press the "Windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open -

Type C:\ProgramData hit ok
Right-click on the program data folder and select "Properties"
Go to the Security tab, and select "Users" from the group or usernames
Click "Edit"
Select Users, then check the box by "Full Control"
Click "Apply"
You may get a whole bunch of error messages about inheritance, just hold down the Enter key until they all go away.
Click "Cancel" a couple of times to dismiss the properties boxes
Go forth and print from any application and check.

After you give the permissions install the full feature printer software.

Update the full feature printer software using this link. Click Here

Let me know if this helps!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂

Hi and thank you for your support but it didn't help. went thru your how-to-do-it but still same problem, it's locked. Can't upgrade, can't uninstall or use it.

Totally tired of this.

@Lars-Konrad

As you still have issues after trying out the steps, try installing a third party application called Revo uninstaller on the PC and remove the printer entries from the PC and reinstall the full feature printer software.

Note: You can download the Revo uninstaller by searching on the Google website.

Also, you can try creating a new user account with admin privileges and install the full feature printer software.
