officejet oj 5780

I was given an HP all-in-one (j5780) without the drivers.  HP no longer supports this unit.  Is there a way to get drivers?

Hi @Doingresearch,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet J5780 Printer driver installation. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Update the printer firmware

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Select the full feature driver but read the warning first

https://drivers.eu/Printers/HP/Officejet%20J5780

WARNING: THE ARCHIVE SITES BELOW ARE NOT HP AND PROBABLY HAVE UNWANTED SOFTWARE THAT WILL DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL

The following two sites have software for older systems that might not be available at HP. The driverscollection site is recommended more than the .eu one. Do not download any "driver downloader" or "updater". Please examine the buttons to ensure they download the actual driver and not a driver helper. Do not click on any advertisements or any page that has the word "AD"

https://us.driverscollection.com

https://drivers.eu/Printers/HP

https://drivers.eu/PC/HP

Close any popup that has "AD" in it. Download only official HP files. For laptops and desktops, the download filename will start with the two letters SP and have the form
SP153214.exe -or-
SP96885.exe etc.

Printer download will have the name or model of the printer in the filename.

Let me know what you find out.

Thank you very much.  Do you know if the sites are safe?

No, the sites contain malware that downloads advertisements.  Some antivirus will flag the download as a trojan but it is basically malware.  The malware is in the downloader application.  That app is not needed and can be avoided if you are careful.

The malware is in the "downloader application". In my experience the drivers are all original HP drivers that for some un-accountable reason, HP does not want to store on their download servers.

If in doubt, scan for malware after downloading

Generally speaking this is software that is not considered a virus or trojan. It performs unwanted functions such as downloading newer advertisements or reporting what the user is looking to buy and offering alternative suggestions. Typically free games have these apps.
Type MRT in the windows search bar. Do it both before and after downloading.
