Hello,
I am having trouble getting the drivers for an HP Deskjet D2660.
I tried everything on the website.
Has anyone had any issue???
When I try a manual install the only drives are coming up for a Deskjet 2640
I also tried the HP smart app with no success.
My printer is being recognized by the computer
but is coming up as a Deskjet 2600.
When I tried to use those drives nothing happens
i have installed other printers and never had this much trouble.
Please advise.
Thnaks
Phil

Hi @Phil0206,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you're encountering issues with the driver installation for your HP Deskjet D2660 printer. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem.
Check Compatibility: Ensure that the driver you are trying to install is compatible with your operating system. Sometimes, using an incompatible driver can cause issues.
Use Windows Update: Try using Windows Update to automatically download and install the correct driver for your printer. Follow these steps:
- Go to "Settings" on your computer.
- Select "Update & Security."
- Click on "Windows Update" and check for updates.
- If there are updates available, install them and check if the printer is recognized correctly.
Manually Download from HP Website:
- Go to the official HP website (https://support.hp.com).
- Enter your printer model (HP Deskjet D2660) and go to the drivers section.
- Download the latest driver for your operating system.
- Follow the installation instructions provided on the HP website.
Uninstall Previous Drivers: Make sure to uninstall any previously installed drivers for the printer before attempting to install the new ones. You can do this through the "Devices and Printers" settings on your computer.
Check Device Manager:
- Right-click on the Start menu and select "Device Manager."
- Locate your printer under the "Print queues" or "Other devices" section.
- Right-click on the printer and select "Update driver."
- Choose to search for updated driver software automatically.
HP Smart App: Ensure that you have the latest version of the HP Smart App. Uninstall the app, download the latest version from the official website, and reinstall it.
Try a Generic Driver: If all else fails, you can try using a generic driver. Windows often has built-in drivers for common printers. Follow these steps:
- Go to "Devices and Printers."
- Click on "Add a printer."
- Choose the option to add a local printer.
- Select the appropriate port and choose a generic printer driver that closely matches your printer model.
Remember to restart your computer after making any changes to ensure that the changes take effect.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
